Who Needs the Best of the Best When You’ve Got Big Gov Running Things by Jonathan Vander Veen

obama-leading-war-on-capitalism1I have been thinking about all of the industries in which Obama has increased the role of the government and became frightened at the thought of no longer being able to rely on a specialist, or in other words: someone who is the best of the best, to lead these industries. Here are a few industries that have been on my mind this evening:

1. Banking

2. Healthcare

3. Auto

4. Insurance

5. Infrastructure

6. Defense/National Security

7. Education

8. Investment

9. Energy

This is scary stuff here. These are major industries could very well be destroyed as a result of extensive government involvement. Once these industries go; so goes the country. I am not trying to be some sort of conspiracy theorist here, I am just worried about the future of this great country because I have seen the negative effects of extensive government involvement (Amtrak, USPS, Social Security, infrastructure projects, education, etc) and it terrifies me to know that Obama is attempting to expand the government’s role in other areas of our economy.

Expanding government does not make things better and it does not make us stronger. If it did, socialist and communist countries like Cuba and North Korea would be the most powerful, the Soviet Union would have won the Cold War, Obama would not say that increased government spending would only be temporary, and so on.

In fact, excessive government involvement makes this country and our economy weaker. In the banking industry, government involvement has resulted in greater regulation, the changing of rules, and the regulation of executive pay. Because of these things, the best and brightest are going to stay away from the banking industry. Instead of having magnificent bankers who could actually help the banks get out of the mess that they are currently in, the industry is going to be left with individuals who are in the business only because those who outperformed them have decided to work in an industry that is free from government interference and on where they can receive a true market wage for their expertise.

In healthcare, I am afraid that finding a first rate doctor will become more and more difficult in the upcoming years. With a universal healthcare, something that Obama would just love to have, doctors will find themselves losing the autonomy to treat their patients as they see fit. This will happen because the government will be calling all of the shots. The government will be deciding which medications to prescribe, the government will be calling for which treatment to use, the government will be deciding which patients can receive that potentially life saving procedure, and so on. So why would anybody want to spend tens of thousands of dollars and nearly a decade of their life in school and training just so they can become a government employee? They wouldn’t! The most qualified would want their own practice, they would want to call the shots, and they would want to decide what is best for their patients; not check with a government bureaucracy before each and every decision that they make.

National Security is one of the newest industries falling victim to excessive government involvement. Just recently, after saying that he would not want to prosecute those involved with saving American lives, or what the left would call ‘torture’, Obama has stated that he might prosecute those who were involved in the development of certain types of methods used to find out exactly what these pathetic, terrorist thugs knew. By doing so, Obama has just guaranteed America that the best and brightest in the field of defense will no longer be involved in any field that deals with protecting us from terrorists.

Similar outcomes are surfacing in numerous other important industries that keep our economy moving. The best are not going to want to run American auto companies because they are not sure if the government will decide to fire them just because they feel like it; they wouldn’t want to be a part of any major insurance company because they might have their bonuses, if they even get one, taxed at a 90% rate; they are not going to want to be a part of any major energy company that is not a ‘green’ company because they might be bankrupted by Obama; the best will not want to teach because they will have to follow this worthless, America hating and blaming curriculum; they will not want to get involved within the investment industry because they will never know when Obama might declare some sector that he does not like to be in a ‘market bubble’ and destroy any and all investment opportunities; and finally the best and the brightest might not ever want to be the best that they can be because if they do become as successful as they could, Obama will kill them in higher taxes and they will also be labeled as evil and corrupt, among many other harsh terms, as a direct result of this class warfare that Obama has started.

What will happen to this amazing country of ours? If we can’t have the most competent and the brightest running our industries, what kind of future can we expect? This country used to attract the best and the brightest from all over the world. This country attracted those people because it was in this country where those individuals could start their own business free from excessive government involvement. It was in this country where autonomy was valued and innovation was rewarded and a person could gain as much wealth as they wanted.

Today, this is a completely different country. Today many of our brightest are preferring to leave the United States and open up a shop of their own in another country with less government oversight and a lower corporate tax rate. The worst part about all of this is that we are not losing people in one or two insignificant industries; rather we are losing the best possible candidates in some of the most important industries within our economy.
